my second 850

Excellent Value Camera
Author's Rating:
The Canon PowerShot SD850 IS 8.0 MP Digital Elph Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom is a multi-featured camera far surpassing expectations for the price. Compact but powerful and the resulting photos are extremely sharp and color-true. The memory disc has too small a capacity, but that was easily remedied with the purchase of a more spacious disc on the aftermarket. Also, when purchasing this camera, I recommend that you purchase an accompanying travel case for it.

So much more than I had hoped
Author's Rating:
I bought the PowerShot to take on vacation with me. The pictures are incredibly sharp and clear. This is a tremendous improvement over my FujiFilms 4 mp. I am very pleased. Then I went to a Lyle Lovett concert, pulled the zoom and suddenly it was 16x zoom! I have pictures that look like he was standing inches away from me! Maybe I ought to read the manual? This was a lovely surprise and I wouldn't trade this camera for anything.

Everyone need to have one of this excellent, handy camera
Author's Rating:
Everyone need to have one of this excellent, handy camera. I bought one for everybody in my family. My wife, 2 sons, my sister, we all carry it in the pocket, in the purse. The life is full of wonderful, beautiful sights what worth to record, load in the computer and review again and again. It also make excellent movie footages. If a picture or footage become not so important later, than you just delete it. It didn't cost you a penny, not a photographer processed it, you did. You buy photo paper and print a picture on it, than frame and hang on the wall. All takes just minutes and with this fantastic little camera you produced everlasting memories for the future to look back. We all love our little camera. You will too. Regards, Laslo Bako

Almost perfect
Author's Rating:
+ Takes great pictures, very clear, good auto white balance.
+ Has underwater mode (filters blue) to go along with the available underwater housing.
+ Display is very clear and bright, even in moderate sunlight.
+ First shot lag from power-on is pretty good, about 1.5 seconds I'd guess.
+ Works well with the underwater housing.
+ Very small, but feels solid.
- Controls are slightly confusing, but no worse than other subcompacts.
- Glossy screen smudges easily.
- A little on the heavy side for a subcompact, but still pocketable.
- Flash modes not easily adjustable without going into manual mode.
Overall, a very good camera, would buy again!

A Clear Winner!
Author's Rating:
A co-worker let me borrow his for an accident investigation. When I returned to the office, I went straight to the internet, did some research and purchased my own. Lightweight, easy to operate, excellent zoom and a good number of setting to choose from. The photos are fantastic and the video is so incredible. Between photos and video, I went through two 2-Gig memory cards without having to recharge the battery. That, in itself, was amazing. After having to change the rechargable AA batteries (twice) in my wife's Kodak EasyShare C340, before she even filled the 32Mb memory card, I was overly impressed. From distant, to aquarium tunnel, to multiple faces, to the finest flora and fauna details, this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS 8.0 MP Digital Elph Camera is a clear winner. Very possibly the last camera I'll ever buy.

Canon Poershot SD850

great little camera!
Author's Rating:
I already owned a Canon Powershot S50, so I was biased
towards getting another Canon. The SD850 Elph is a
perfect little carry-around camera for vacations and
everyday use. It is really light, has a huge LCD,
and if you already know the weird Canon menus, then
it will be easy to use advanced features.
The macro mode (for super close-ups) is incredible.
The Canon SW is not very good, so I suggest Photoshop Elements
for any serious editing. Also, it comes with a worthless 32MB memory
card, which is good for 6 pictures (!). I got the A-Data
Turbo 16 GB SDHC card for about $80 and it works great, and way
faster than my old S50. Now I have room for 4496 pictures (at max res).
The battery seems to last a long time as well.

Like the small size
Author's Rating:
This camera replaced another digital Canon that I had purchased about 5 or 6 years ago. I wanted a smaller camera that I could put into my purse. But I also wanted a viewfinder. This model has everything I need. I love the size of the LCD screen. I haven't had a chance to take a lot of pictures but what I have taken has come out very well. The reason I'm not rating it with 5 stars is that I have had problems with the software installation of ZoomBrowser EX against the previously installed version. So I have not been able to download my pictures from the camera using the new installation of ZoomBrowser. I have not had a chance to call Canon Customer Support to work through the issues.

Pros: Good picture quality
Cons: No wide angle, no manual controls
The Bottom Line: Good camera for traveling
Review: I have previously owned S100, S320, S400, SD550, SD700, SD890 and G9 cameras. SD850 was definitely one of my favorites in this line of PowerShots. In this review, I would like to analyze what Canon has advertised and what you actually get Canon add:... Read Full Review by irinette, May 9, 2008
Canon PowerShot SD850 IS / IXUS 950 Digital Camera
Pros: Price, image stabilization, features and performance, 4x zoom, face recognition
Cons: Soft corners and chromatic aberrations at wide angle, no wide angle, red eye
The Bottom Line: I like the Canon SD850 IS overall. It has its issues with soft corners of the frame and chromatic aberrations, but it is a very good camera overall...
Review: Once the Canon SD850 IS appeared on the market, I developed a desire to get it. I have always liked Canon Digital Elph cameras. I liked the 5 -Megapixel SD450 and the 7 .1-Megapixel ... Read Full Review by dkozin, Oct 26, 2007
