Designed with self-timer photography in mind, the Gorillapod lets you mount your camera just about anywhere you want so that you can include everyone in your automatic shots. All you need to do is use the universal 1/4-20 screw to attach your camera to the standard tripod mount, then wrap the three flexible segmented legs securely to a nearby tree branch, fence, park bench, or anything else that's convenient.

Say goodbye to holding your camera at arm's length to take a photo of yourself and your friends--now you can be free to pose however you like! Durable and innovative, the Gorillapod weighs just 5.8 ounces, or 165 grams, and can support cameras--such as DSLRs--weighing up to 1.75 pounds, or 800 grams. Measuring just 9.8 inches in length, the Gorillapod fits easily into a purse, backpack, or even a roomy jacket pocket..

Amazon Review Great Tripod

My girlfriend and I are doing quite a bit of traveling, therefore taking a lot of photos. Many times I use the timer to get pictures of the both of us; however, dozens of photos were tilted pretty bad because the surface I would sit the camera on was usually a rock or something similar. After rotating and cropping, we were losing a majority of the shot.

I found this product while shopping accessories for my Sony Cybershot. We just took it on a trip to Tasmania and it was great to have. It's easy to fasten into the bottom of the camera and can position the camera on just about any surface.

The only problem I've encountered as yet is at the base where the tripod screws in, if turned at the certain angle, the tripod will come off, leaving only the screwed-in base attached to the camera. There's a locking/un-locking mechanism at this point; however, the device you turn to lock or unlock continues to turn all the way around the base. Maybe I am not using it properly or haven't figured it out.

Other than that, we are in love with it and it works great for my Cybershot. We use out camera for just general everyday shots and outdoor shots during traveling, so the tripod is perfect for those environments. Great price as well. I feel like it's already paid for itself on our first trip.

Amazon Review Very cool thingy!

Author's Rating: 5

I'm a photographer and I always have at least a small digital camera with me. However, from time to time I want to be in the pictures which requires me to set the camera somewhere and use the timer. This cool little tripod is the perfect solution to this problem. With the flexible legs you can grab the random tree branch or whatever and get the perfect composition. I've played with these tripods before but this version has some slick advantages over earlier ones I've used.

First off it comes with several different mounting brackets in addition to the traditional camera mount. You get two self adhesive ones and a nifty suction cup that works surprisingly well. The other cool advancement is that the head locks the brackets on to keep an accident from dropping your device.

Amazon Review Just OK

Author's Rating: 3

This is a lot floppier than I expected it to be. I've tried using it with my little digital camera, and unless it's positioned perfectly upright it will not stay in place. It would never work for me to try the position in the picture, where the legs are wrapped around a pole and the camera is off to the side. My camera is not too heavy, either. Who knows, maybe I got a defective one.

Amazon Review Quite Useful

This device does what it is acclaimed to do. It is quite sturdy and will safely hold my Nikon D200 with battery pack/grip and the 18-200mm lens. It will even hold my camera/grip WITH my Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 lens that weighs a sold 8 lbs (all together), however the unit is only rated at holding 6.5 lbs, but will hold my 8 lb camera/lens when no other options exist. Remember that added care must be exercised with it's placement, as there is much greater risk that it could collapse and injure the equipment when it's weight rating is exceeded.

It is very light and easy to carry, however it really needs a carrying case. I am going to make one myself, but the manufacturer really needs to offer this as an option. Also keep in mind that the unit really needs a tripod head. I have a small Manfrotto ball head that works very well. If no head is used, you will experience a great deal of unnecessary frustration, but conversely, doesn't every tripod need a head? Don't get this Gorillapod without a head, otherwise you'll have a unit with very limited functionality.

Amazon Review great for hiking trips

Author's Rating: 5

This tripod is great for a couple who wants to get some good pictures of a hiking, beach or any other trip without having to ask random people if they will take a picture. The clip makes it easy to take the camera on and off the tripod and because the legs are flexible, you don't need to much space to store it. Great purchase and a lot of great pictures!

Amazon Review Almost as stable as you want.

Author's Rating: 4

I was very excited to get this product and use it for my vacation. I have a Canon 40D which is very heavy. I noted that this model of the Gorillapod is supposed to be able to support a camera like mine with a large lens. I have found that this is mostly true. By that I mean that it took a little bit more work that I suspected to get the photo I wanted. There is a minimum amount of fiddling needed to make sure the camera is stable to take the shot you want. This product is very portable and fits nicely on the outside of my smallest camera bag Tamrac 5767 Velocity 7x Photo Sling Pack (Black). I had no trouble transporting it or retrieving it for use. I highly recommend this product as it is and enjoyed using it.

Amazon Review Pretty cool

Author's Rating: 4

I bought this for a gift and got great feedback. It twists and conforms to whatever it is wrapped around. However, I regret not buying the Large tripod. I have a small digital camera and the pod fits on it fine, but the tripod's legs are not very long. Getting it to fit on every object would be easier with the large tripod's legs.
It is worth spending the money on the large tripod. Next time!

Amazon Review Handy but not so sturdy

Author's Rating: 4

It's really fun and handy.

A large SLR with a hefty lens and flash will definitely not stay put very well. My Canon 20d with a speedlite and Tokina 12-24 F4 had the Gorillapod sagging and drooping all over the place. With a lighter lens and no flash, it's great for hanging on a tree or taking tabletop snaps.

I'd recommend this for anyone wanting a clever alternative to toting a proper tripod but be prepared to spend some time getting it just so before snapping any pictures.

Amazon Review 2 Stars for Joby knockoff from Targus.

Author's Rating: 2

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R9ANK9AN12DWF This is a video review for the Targus Grypton Portable Tripod, which appears to be a rebranded Joby GP1 (edit: cheap knockoff). It was purchased at a Radio Shack for $9.99, normally priced at $14.99, a little cheaper than the Joby. On my first trip with the tripod, it fell from 3 feet from the car it was resting on when someone closed the car door. One of the ball joints on the tripod cracked, but thankfully didn't break my camera! It could still be used level, only at certain angles as shown in the video. Then I superglued the cracked balljoint, which fixed the problem, but lost some flexibility. The main issues were durability, and stability (especially with a camera that has an offset tripod mount). Definitely go for the Joby over this 'deal.'

See Review The Tripod That Can Go Anywhere (With Your Small Digital Camera)

Author's Rating: 5

Pros: Flexible (in both build and usage), light and compact

Cons: Only holds compact digital cameras

The Bottom Line: This is an excellent companion for any small digital camera. Flexible legs allow it to be mounted (or hung or attached) almost anywhere. Light and compact for easy travel.

Review: As I&#146ve said many times before in my reviews, I hate flashes. They suck the life and emotion out of so many photos. Digital camera flashes are the worst, often too harsh to be useful in most situations. Professional lighting is far better but... Read Full Review by noangels, Dec 28, 2006
