With a Slingbox PRO you are never separated from your favorite TV shows, sports broadcasts, breaking news stories, digital video recordings, or video on demand..
The first generation Slingbox was a big step forward for so-called "place shifting" technology, a device that allowed you to view incoming TV signals on any TV computer in your home, or on any Internet-connected PC around the world. Sling Media is now introducing the successors to this groundbreaking product. Now there are three Slingboxes to choose from, each with features that make it easier than ever to bring your TV and other media with you wherever you roam.
Choose from the Slingbox Tuner, AV, and Pro models depending on your entertainment needs. Compare Slingbox models. The Slingbox Pro offers Component HD, S-video, coax, and composite video connections.
Slingbox Pro The Slingbox Pro ensures that you can watch all of your favorite home theater entertainment anywhere you go, with the ability to watch and control up to three standard definition and one high definition video (via component connection) devices. Using an Internet connected computer or compatible mobile phone (with purchase of SlingPlayer Mobile software), you can watch and control your home TV, DVR, basic cable, digital cable box, or satellite receiver anywhere around your home or around the globe. With a Slingbox Pro you will never be separated from your favorite TV shows, sports broadcasts, breaking news stories, digital video recordings, or video on demand.
The Slingbox Pro also includes the free Slingbox Finder service to locate a Slingbox from any network location, in or out of the home. How it Works Slingbox Pro is a small device that connects to your cable box to redirect the TV signal to the computer of your choice--providing high quality video, no matter the distance, so long as there is a high-speed Internet connection. This technology also allows you to access and control your TV from anywhere--and your TV doesn't even have to be on.
You can enjoy signals from a digital cable box, DVR, satellite receiver, or DVD player on any computer at home, on the Internet, or on a compatible mobile phone. One of the video sources can be an HD component device. SlingMedia's patent pending SlingStream technology delivers the smoothest and best video quality possible.
SlingStream delivers up to a 400 percent video quality improvement over the original Slingbox. SlingStream is powered by a programmable engine that is capable of running the latest video compression algorithms. SlingStream dynamically adjusts to changes in network conditions, video content, and Internet bandwidth.
At Home, At Work, or on the Go At home, Now you can watch TV in whatever room in the house you choose. Say goodbye to the days of having to watch your child's favorite DVD over and over again. Now you can watch your soaps in the laundry room.
You can watch your fix-it shows in the garage. Or you can watch your cooking shows in the kitchen. You'll never get stuck having to watch shows you don't want to now that you're in charge of what's on, when it's on, and where it's on.
Now that you can access your TV wherever you have your computer, the clock won't be the only thing worth watching at work. You can watch your news and business channels to stay updated. You can catch the big game while tending to business.
Or, you can watch your favorite shows during your downtime. In any event, work will never just be business as usual. With the SlingBox you can travel to another country and actually understand the programs.
You can visit the in-laws and not get stuck watching The Weather Channel. You can change channels and control your TV on your computer just as if you were in your living room. The AV and Pro models add remote control options for your home theater devices.

This is a great product. It does just what i want. It has more features then I need, but I hope to be able to use them in the future.
Just one note, be sure this is what you want. Sending TV across the internet you will not get the best picture.

Slingplayer Pro - amazing!
Author's Rating:
This is one of the best inventions! It did take a bit of patience at first as we had trouble with our router but once we got that all taken care of it was a piece of cake and works every time. Their customer service is really good and was able to trouble shoot each step and did so frequently with us until we took care of that pesky router.

I purchased this product and had so many problems with it and eventually SlingMedia tech support came to the conclusion that the product was defective.

SlingboxPro Review
Author's Rating:
It was easy to set up and works great on a desktop, laptop or pocketPC. I have tried it on all three! As long as you don't have a low bandwidth cap from your IP provider this will work great, streaming takes a lot of bandwidth. I also wish it could stream directly through my home network from the slingbox direct to the pc without having to go onto the internet, if it did this it would not use bandwidth. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. You can connect almost any electronic device to it, I got the HD connect cable also, this has an extra 4 ir remotes adding to the 2 ir provided by the box itself, you now have control of 6 devices through ir.

Fantastic!

Wow, I couldn't remember buying new technology that actually worked perfectly, with near zero effort, right out of the box, but this reminded me! Works great and couldn't be more simple to use. If only every new device worked like this.

Great Device
Author's Rating:
Slingbox is a really cool device that lets you access your cable from anywhere you have internet (including smart-phones, like the Motorola Q; the mobile software is $30 however). The video quality certainly isn't as good as a full TV but it's still completely sufficient for watching on your laptop or phone. The best part is the slingplayer software (which is a free download from their site, only the mobile version costs $$) is just like being at your tv with your cable provider's remote. Installing the slingbox can be difficult, particularly with wireless routers, but their customer service is very helpful, you can log on and instantly chat with a representative who will do the configuration on your computer for you if need be. They have almost every type of cable company's remote, so you can access unique features like ondemand and on-screen program guides on your computer or phone. Mine is at a friend's house back home (he has a better cable plan than I do) which means I get access to all the local channels and best of all, I get to see my home teams' games that aren't covered locally when I'm away at college
The only downside is the cost, slingbox pro is about $300, but 90% you have to also buy slinglink which is another $80 because most people don't have their router right next to the cable outlet. Then again it is just a one-time fee, and if you use it on your mobile phone, it beats any mobile TV service out there by a long shot since it's only $30 one time for the software (you need a good data plan, however)

No Free-To-Air Digital TV
Author's Rating:
Nice product. When it works right. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. Fortunately, the product offers some of the best technical support I've experienced.
My problem with this product is that I have antenna-only free-to-air TV reception, BUT come February 17th, 2008 when analog NTSC stops, this unit will no longer have a working tuner. Only if you have a newer TiVo box, cable or satellite, will you get live TV.
The UK version of the Pro does comes with ATSC (Digital TV) and analog tuners. Why not the US version too? We spoke with the company, and they told us to buy an extra digital converter box($50), the kind the government is giving out coupons for.
All over-the-air broadcasts will be digital by law by February, 2009. Sling Media have announced a new Pro Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD SB100-100 that has NTSC (analog), ATSC (digital) and QAM (basic cable), but no release date has been set yet. Frankly, I think it should have been on the market a long time ago.
Sling is currently testing new software for the US only. The BETA version, which you can download, buffers for ten minutes, letting you pause and "rewind" live TV. Also, a channel's logo is now automatically assigned to the TV stations.
Over all, this is a nice well-designed product. To use it to its fullest, however, requires a bit of planning when it comes to where you attach the DVR, DVD, cable and satellite boxes.
But on the positive side, Sling Media offers very good tech support, which set up my Slingbox pro to my Internet router for me and helped me set it up on my laptop and desktop computer. It's a very good product, but it needs to be improved.

3 for now...

I've had this a month. I'm a fairly technical guy working in the IT industry... So I was fairly confident going into this that I'd be able to set it up. It was a lot tricky than I expected and I'm not 100% sure I even have it set up correctly but it functions. Quality and the software is excellent, the channel changer works nicely but I'm concerned that i'm going to have to go through another painful install when I replace my existing computer.
I'm also a little confused by the HD Connect Cable - I'm a little perturbed it wasn't included and feel that some of the marketing literature on the PRO isn't 100% accurate in terms of HD support. But I suppose that's part of the enjoyment with new technology :)
