Amazon Review Works Great

Author's Rating:   5

I had an older model TiVo and upgraded to this newer HD model. I can't live without it. I bought My DVR Expander to go with this model and now have hours of extra storage space for all my favorite programs.

Amazon Review Can't Live Without TiVO

Author's Rating:   4

If you ever get a TiVO, you won't know how you lived without it for so long. In our case, once you get a dual tuner HD TiVO, it is even better. This TiVO has been great so far. The HD quality is great. The dual tuners are great. CableCards - not so great, but that is not TiVO's fault. Took Comcast a couple of visits to get CableCards that would work in both slots, but now that it is working, it is definitely a nice setup. Only think I could complain about is the remote that comes with it. Very mushy feeling. I would highly recommend the GloRemote from TiVO - much better option. Otherwise, no complains.

Amazon Review The Best TiVo Yet, and by default the Best DVR Ever

Close

Author's Rating:   5

I recently upgraded from a Series 2 Single tuner TiVo to the TiVo HD. I held off until now because I didn't have an HDTV. Once I got the HDTV the Series 2 standard def just wasn't cutting it on 55 inches. An HD DVR became a necessity. As far as I was concerened there was no option but to get another TiVo. I didn't go Series 3 because it seams like not much more for more than twice the price.
TiVo HD has exceeded my expectations from the start. Getting setup with a cable card was as easy as pulling the M-Card I already had out of my TV and plugging it into my TiVo. Done. Flawless.
This is my first dual-tuner dvr and the TiVo HD handles it so smoothly you don't even realize it's recording more than one thing at a time.
It supports up to 1080i which is the limit of my TV so the lack of 1080p isn't an issue. Especially since as far as I know there is no TV in 1080p. (could be wrong)
The picture quality is as good as my HD cable has ever looked. And the 20 hrs of hd storage hasn't proved to be a limitation yet. If it becomes a problem come fall I can always pick up the My DVR expander.
I'm not even going to mention all the features that have always been in a TiVo. Don't go with the cable company's dvr. Do yourself a favor. Pick up TiVo HD.

Amazon Review return to tivo

Author's Rating:   5

After switching from Tivo to Fios, to get HD, I've returned to the fold with the new lower priced HD Tivo unit. What a hassle it was to get Verizon to come out with the cable cards! After getting everything set up, the Tivo box works as I'd hoped with the same interface. In addition to HD, the other reason for shifting to Tivo is that you can access your mp3 music files stored on your networked computer from Tivo. If you have Tivo attached to your receiver in your family room, you can play your music thru it (an old feature, but still a nice one). The cost for the two required cable cards is $8, which makes the Tivo box more expensive than the Verizon alternative, but it is still a better deal. One small complaint - it would be nice to have a small LCD panel on the box to show the time.

Amazon Review Seems nice, but impossible to get the Cablecard

Close

Author's Rating:   4

In order to ensure that the logistics worked, I scheduled the installation of the Cablecard prior to ordering the TivoHD. Comcast was scheduled to show up on Thursday, with the TivoHD arriving on Wednesday.

After setting up the Tivo on Wednesday evening, I was ready for Comcast to insert the Cablecard and go on their way. Well, they did not show up, but after I called them twice, they told me that they do not have Cablecards and they have problems with them. I then rescheduled.

The rescheduled date came and they called me that morning to tell me that they didnt have any Cablecards. After further discussion, they sent out a tech to install a Cablecard. The unfortunate part of the story is that the friendly and competent installer brought a defective Cablecard.

I have had my TivoHD for over a week and I have only used it as a regular Tivo. Though it works as it should, I warn you that Comcast does not want to cooperate with the installation of the Cablecards.

Amazon Review Free TiVo!!... For a reason...

Author's Rating:   1

I was excited to get this TiVo FREE with the purchase of my Samsung plasma TV, but the excitement ended shortly after I had it installed by Comcast.

Firstly, in order to record or watch digital/ HD television, it requires a cable card, which only your cable company can install and costs $30. Not a problem, I did it because I had heard such good things about TiVo and I wanted to join the fun. Well, today is day 28 without cable television, and after hours on the phone with Comcast and multiple tech visits to my home, I am ditching the TiVo service and returning to Comcast's DVR.

I have been told that TiVo has trouble with several different cable providers due to an incompatibility with the formatting/ technology. I'm sure other people have had great experiences with their TiVo, but mine didn't even get off the ground...

Amazon Review Better than cable box

Author's Rating:   5

Comcast technicians were not familiar with setting up cable cards with TIVO, after about an hour they configured it successfully . Better features than the Motorola DVR I rented from Comcast.
I would say that this box is an overall improvement on the Motorola box. I haven't experienced the occasional picture breakup I used to have on some channels. Up to 80hours recording time in HD with optional expander box from Western Digital.

Pros:  2 week program guide, easy recording and season pass, HD viewing and recording, sleek design

Cons:  Slooow interface, instabilities, loooong reboot, subscription required for basic function

The Bottom Line:  An intelligent video recorder with HD capabilities, but with a lot of infancy problems and restrictive DRM.

Author's Rating:   4

Pros:  Value; video quality; feature set; price; capacity

Cons:  Possible incompatibility with SDV in some areas; fees; CableCard installation

The Bottom Line:  Highly recommended overall, but expect some minor setup headaches. Also, investigate SDV compatibility and CableCard fees before purchasing. Otherwise, an excellent unit for the price.
